Membership and Eligibility
- All Members, able to actually check out things, must have provided proof of ID, age (18+) and address.
- Borrowing privileges may be suspended if a member has outstanding late fees or unreturned items.
Borrowing Rules
- The standard loan period is until the next time that the library is open, unless otherwise specified at the time of borrowing, up to a maximum of 14 days. Fees will be charged at a daily rate, though some items are free to borrow.
- Items may be renewed once, if no other member has reserved the item.
- Members are limited to borrowing 5 items at any given time.
- Items are to be returned to the same location they were collected from, unless previously agreed.
Fees and Fines
- To ensure items are available for all members, a fee of £1 per item per day will be charged for items returned after the due date.
- Items must be returned in the same condition they were borrowed. A cleaning fee of £5 may be applied if an item is returned excessively dirty or wet. Repeated returns of dirty items may result in suspension of borrowing privileges!
- Borrowers are responsible for the repair cost of any item that is damaged while in their care, but only if the item was used improperly. This fee may be waived, at the discretion of a librarian
- Borrowers are responsible for the full replacement cost of any item that is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond repair while in their care.
Liability and Safety
- All items are provided “as is.” The library makes no guarantees regarding the condition or fitness of an item for a particular task.
- Borrowers must complete a safety induction for specific high-risk tools (e.g. power saws) before they are permitted to borrow them. They may choose to sign a waiver to state that they are an expert already and take responsibility for safe use of the item.
- Borrowers are expected to review all included guidance as to safe usage, battery charging and cleaning.
- The borrower acknowledges that using certain tools carries inherent risks. By borrowing, the member assumes all risk of injury to themselves or others.
- Any tools (DIY or Garden) may only be used by the borrower themselves – we are not responsible for 3rd party use of tools.
- The borrower agrees to indemnify and hold BayShare and associated Lending Libraries harmless from any claims, damages, or injuries resulting from the use of borrowed items.
Maintenance and Proper Use
- Borrowers shall not attempt to repair or modify any borrowed items.
- Any breakage or operational issues must be reported immediately upon return.
- Professional Use Prohibited: Library items are intended for personal, DIY, or community use and may not be used for professional or commercial work.
