Borrowing and returning things

Borrowing things

  1. Book the items online through the catalogue, choose your pickup and drop off dates. You can always extend the date if no one else has made a booking. If someone else already has the thing on loan, you can reserve it
  2. Come in to pick up your item. Pay for it only at this point
  3. Anything that normally requires a proof of age to buy, such as bladed tools, needs photo ID, such as a driving licence, passport or government ID card, in order to take them away
  4. You don’t have to pay borrowing fees immediately. Your account can accrue up to £5 of debit. Once it goes up to £5, you’ll need to actually pay. You can pre-load your account with credit, if you’d prefer. Payments can be via debit/credit card online or you can pay by bank transfer (reference: “BayShare account”). Bank transfers may take up to 48 hours to be added to your account – please ask a librarian to process it, if you need it dealt with faster
  5. Pay the borrowing fee – membership tiers, other than pay-as-you-go, provide discounts on the borrowing fees
  6. Use the item responsibly and with joy!
  7. Return the item on, or before, your return date
  8. Tell your local family, friends and communities!

Returning things

  1. Ensure the thing is clean and dry. We may charge a cleaning fee, of £5, if we need to spend time to make something ready to be restocked
  2. Just pop in and drop off your item with a librarian
  3. Please tell us if the item has been broken in use. We won’t charge you for repair or replacement, unless you were using the item improperly when it broke
  4. If you’ve kept the item longer than you booked it for, then you will be fined £1/day! If there are extenuating circumstances why you couldn’t return it on time and could not extend your booking, then the librarian may waive this fine
